NBC’s David Gregory reportedly told Tim Russert on Sunday that regarding the 2008 presidential race, former Vice President Al Gore ”wants to get into it, I know he does.“
Gregory didn’t explain how he knew this and naturally Russert failed to ask him to elaborate.

Sad news to report from Sen. Russ Feingold (D-WI.)
The Wisconsin progressive and one of only a handful of senators to vote against the Iraq war, has decided not to run for president in 2008.
In a letter posted on his website, the Progressive Patriots Fund, Feingold said he was excited that Tuesday’s elections gave Democrats control of [...]

Jeralyn Merritt’s went on TV to talk on who should run in 2008: “We also talked about Hillary and Obama. Both La Shawn and I thought Obama needs more experience and didn’t know if Hillary would run. I said I’d like to see a woman in the White House, La Shawn thought she’s too polarizing [...]

Yesterday, Glenn Kessler in his Washington Post article, entitled “Rice’s pre-election appearances buck tradition — Secretary of State is expected to stay above the partisan fray,” reported on Condi’s pre-election activity with a rather critical tone. While Dr. Rice has largely avoided the megabuck politcal fundraising circuit with its infamous “rubber chicken” and photo [...]

Ben Cardin, the Democrats’ $4 million man (and that’s just the primary)
In an example of Party discipline that would have made Stalin’s commissars proud, the Maryland Democratic machine recruited and nominated Congressman Ben Cardin to defeat Kweisi Mfume, a former congressman and past president of the NAACP, who - in the opinion of many political [...]

The media is juming for joy since Sen. Obama is perhaps possibly thinking about maybe running for president. They should be happy, they created this little juggernaut. Despite his thin credentials (essentially giving a cookie-cutter Democrat speech and being really REALLY popular in Kenya) he’s being touted as a shoe-in to win. The media even seems to be covering for his very liberal voting record and handing him the “moderate” moniker. Witness this comparrison found on Newsbusters of the treatment of Sen. Obama and Gov. Romney:
Miles O’Brien: “Now, on the Republican side of the race for the White House, Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney thinking hard about that. ‘American Morning’s’ Dan Lothian looking at that potential run. Dan, good morning.”
Dan Lothian: “Good morning, Miles. Well, polls seem to favor Senator John McCain and former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani for the nomination in 2008. But Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney seems to be carving out his base by appealing, political experts say, to the far right. It might feel like he’s running for president in 2008, but Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney insists he’s just doing his homework.”
A few seconds later, Lothian continued his “far right” angle:
Lothian: “From New Hampshire to Iowa to South Carolina, Romney, who’s chairman of the Republican Governor’s Association, has been raising money and his profile.”
Ron Kaufman, (Republican Strategist): “The more he’s out and about traveling for candidates, the more people see him, the more people think this man is a leader for the future.”
Lothian: “But critics say the process of becoming that leader and the effort to win the hearts of evangelicals is pushing Romney away from the more moderate candidate than he was four years ago.”
All candidates position themselves and play to their respective bases. But the media rarely slaps a “far left” label on a Democratic candidate. Will Barack Obama be appealing to the far left when he runs for president? Perhaps not. Obama, who in his first year as a Senator, landed a score of eight from the American Conservative Union, was recently labeled a “centrist” by the Associated Press.
For what it’s worth, I’m just as happy with Gov. Romney being called a conservative because I’m secure in the knowledge that conservatism isn’t something one need run away from. The more people think of him as the conservative candidate the closer we all are to a Romney Administration However, we’ve got to remember that the people sitting behind these desks don’t see it that way.
Is Sen. Obama a threat? Yes he is. However, we should not be sucked in by the hype.

I was disappointed to read Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) tell the New York Daily News that the president should have “some lawful authority” to use torture or other “severe” interrogation methods in a so-called ticking-bomb scenario.

The confrontation between the Clintons and Condi that erupted after Bill’s interview with Chris Wallace on September 24th was (is?) based on the claim, by Clinton, that he left behind a “comprehensive plan” on counter terrorism for the Bush administration when he left office. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15234727/ Read all about it here. I’m gonna guess that Gov. Warner found out that Sen. Clinton was monopolizing the ‘08 Democrat money, decided he couldn’t win, and bowed out gracefully in the hopes of getting the VP nod. I bet he wishes he had run against Sen. Allen right about now.
From our point-of-view, this is good news and mildly bad news. Good news in that Gov. Warner might have been a pretty good presidential candidate. I believe Gov. Romney could beat him, but by claiming the mantle of a “moderate” and putting Virginia into play it would have been a bit more difficult and, since elections don’t happen in a vacuum, might have been the Democrats best chance at sneaking in a spoiler.
The bad news is that this solidifies the anti-Hillary candidates on the Democrat side into only Sen. Edwards (he of trial lawyers’ money), increasing the odds that he takes her down and denies us Republicans of the weakest opponent. Luckily, Sen. Edwards isn’t a particularly strong candidate himself.
Of course, I’m getting ahead of myself. The biggest mountain to climb for a potential Romney Admiinistration remains the Republican Primary. On which we are making great progress.

The Republican leadership of the House, and especially Speaker Dennis Hastert, need to seize the opportunity to resign their leadership positions NOW. Their replacements need to be thrown “into the breech” as soon as possible so that they can maximize their effectiveness prior to the midterm elections. In doing so they can dramatically illustrate the differences between Democratic [...]

http://news.bostonherald.com/politics/view.bg?articleid=159233 Governor Romney continues streak of cash for Republican Governor Candidates…
PORTLAND Ore. - Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney brought more than kind words for Republican gubernatorial candidate Ron Saxton at a weekend fundraiser. He brought a $500,000 check.
Saxton said the donation sent a message to local donors that national Republican strategists think he can win.
“We watched the numbers, and the gap has closed,” said Romney, referring to the recent Saxton-commissioned poll.
Romney, who may seek the presidency in 2008, also appeared at a fundraiser at the Benson Hotel that Saxton aides said raised $115,000. About 90 people paid between $500 and $1,500 to attend.
Kulongoski’s campaign manager, Jim Ross, said the contribution “shows how important this race is on the national level.”

The Case for Hillary Clinton

In the past, we Condistas have whispered about our own “Plan A” and “Plan B,” but now it’s the Democrats doing the whispering.
