Georgia Law Requiring Voters to Show Photo ID Is Thrown Out

September 20th, 2006 · No Comments

But it will be appealed. It should be appealed. The basis for the law was to curtail fraud. “They cited an Atlanta Journal-Constitution article that said 5,000 dead people were listed as having voted in the eight elections preceding 2000.” The article goes onto explain that the fraud was alledgedly to have occured within the absentee ballots…The new law doesn’t require ID in order to become an absentee voter. Get that changed. That is dumb and I can see where they would complain, but what I can’t abide by is the fact that they use the tired excuse that dead people voting goes on all over the country. Is that supposed to make it right? Those opposing this law cite that voters have been asked for any of 17 different forms of ID in order to vote in previous elections, including a driver’s license, utility bill, bank statement or paycheck. Why should we change that? The Democrats respose is that voter turnout has been low, now we want to make it more difficult for them?! EXCUSE ME? How does one go about getting a voter id, SS card, utility account, bank statement, medicare, medicaid, or paycheck without a id? You can’t cash a check without a picture id! Georgia offered to pick up the tab for the ids! It doesn’t get anymore clear than that!

Enough with the excuses. Our voting system is in need of an overhaul! This is not about taking away a citizens right to vote, this is about insuring that the voice of the legally living citizen is heard!
